Tips For Buying The Right Sports Gear

It always seems like late July is spent making plans for the beginning of the new school year and all the activities our children will participate in. We wanted to take a minute to share information about the equipment we recommend for our Victory Sports girls volleyball and boys flag football seasons starting in September.

Part of your registration fee will be used to purchase your child’s game jersey and shorts. For the boys, flags and flag belts will also be provided by Victory Sports. Please send your child to practices in athletic attire and tennis shoes (or cleats for football) and with their own labeled water bottle.

Additionally, while we will supply the balls and other necessary team, practice, or game day equipment, there are a few optional items that you might like to have for your child prior to the start of the fall season.

If you would like to purchase the correct ball for your child so you have it for extra reps at home, we’ve got you covered. Girls will be using a lighter, regulation-size volleyball. You might hear this described as a “12U” or “Volley-Lite” ball. Tachikara, Molten, and Bäden all make this model. For football, the boys in both the 1st-2nd grade and 3rd-4th grade divisions will use a Pee-Wee football, while 5th-6th grade boys will be using a Junior-sized ball. We recommend that the girls also purchase their own pair of kneepads for the season. The kneepads with padding that wraps around the sides of the knees are preferable to the type where the cushion is primarily in the front in a bubble-like fashion.

We hope that these tips and tricks help you get your family ready for our inaugural season of Victory Sports. Our God is a God who takes interest in the material things we use to worship and praise him. Even a brief survey of the books of Deuteronomy or Leviticus will demonstrate that! He wanted his people to learn that having the right equipment—take the guidelines for constructing the Ark of the Covenant—is essential to right worship. And we have carried that forward in our Catholic Faith with the liturgical books, missals, and rubrics (i.e. rules) that guide how we worship God during the Mass which, after all, is the perfect prayer.  Did you know, for example, that the candles used at Mass have to be made of wax, traditionally from bees? The wax symbolizes the pure flesh that Christ received from the Blessed Virgin.

So, go out there, get geared up, and we’ll see you this fall at Victory Sports.

The beauty of the Faith through the beauty of sport.
